Year 4 Mini Enrichment League Coding Event
An adrenaline filled day was had by the DESS Year 4 Coding team as they competed against four other Dubai schools in this year’s Year 4 Mini Enrichment League Coding Event, held at GEMS FirstPoint School.
Consisting of programming, problem solving and robotics, using the amazing Sphero™ Bolt, the exciting competition took place on Monday 4th November. Darragh McGrogan and Maryam Mazomzadeh (4Y), Charles El Habibi and Alfie Latimer (4B), Amaira Kholi (40) and Jessica Carter (4G) represented DESS.
On the day, our students used a combination of iPads, teamwork and logical thinking to guide their Sphero around several obstacle courses, to collect cumulative points. They had to use their coding expertise and figure out how to move around a wide variety of hazards- including bridges, jumps, ramps and sand traps!
It was incredible to see their coding skills develop so quickly as the day unfolded. Undoubtedly, the way in which they collaborated as a team helped to deepen and embed their learning. In addition, the following character strengths were highly evident; their love of learning, curiosity, teamwork and perseverance. Mrs Harrow was extremely proud of their conduct, each one of them representing ‘Like a DESS child’.
