‘Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.’ (Melody Beattie)

And so, here we find ourselves in the last three weeks of the school year. It’s that twilight time when we can look back at the year that is closing and visualise the new one to look forward to. A time when we look back at and celebrate the successes, the excitement, the new friends made, old friends missed and feel gratitude for all that has been achieved and look to a future of new opportunities, anticipated experiences and feel some natural trepidation of change to come. However, it is also an opportunity to review, evaluate and strive to improve further.

Between the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid Al Fitr, a group of staff and children visited a camp to distribute over 250 Care Boxes so generously donated before the end of May. In the light of this one gesture, it was a humbling moment to observe the men lining up to receive a small gift which will make such a difference in their daily lives and, as they clapped and cheered a chorus of gratitude, I thought how lucky we all are and how much we have to be grateful for as we benefit from our DESS community in so many ways, each day – from the warm welcomes, smiles and hugs at the gate to the strong ethos of community and family, warmth and support of friendship. So let us think how we can continue to be kind and generous every day now that Ramadan has ended and into the coming months, as we start the new academic year and think of ways we can care for and support each other and our wider communities.
