Determination is a key characteristic of increasing your chances of being successful in a particular thing or achieving a particular goal. It can also help you to stay motivated and continue striving towards what you want to achieve. There are plenty of times, in DESS, where you come across individuals, both staff and children, who are so passionate and determined about what they do and what they want to achieve that they inspire you with their levels of determination. This week has been full of these moments.
Throughout the House swimming galas, there have been moments of sheer determination that have made me incredibly proud to work at DESS. Children have pushed themselves to their max to beat school records, win races and to complete races that they previously didn’t think they would be able to complete. The supportiveness of others, as they cheered each other on to help them reach the end of the race, has shown that determination is contagious and it is not only about belief in oneself but also belief in each other that leads to success and achievement.
Also, this week, Year 6 have demonstrated high levels of determination with their preparation for the performance of Shrek. Staff and parents have been working tirelessly to prepare the set and children have been focused on perfecting their performances and are determined to put on the best performance DESS have ever seen.
Throughout this newsletter you will find a plethora of examples of moments of determination. To stand and watch an entire year group cheer a child who finds swimming more difficult is my proudest moment of the week. Enjoy!
