What a festive rollercoaster! First of all I would like to say that I have spent the day observing hearts, smiles, passion and pure festive fun. This DESStive Day we focused on the children, their experience and creating memories.
The week has been filled with posting and receiving letters to Santa, watching the school transform before our very own eyes, festive performances throughout the week, magical storytelling, festive fairground games, holiday Zumba and Santa’s Body Combat, carol singing around the school and funky dancing dads donning Santa suits! Father Christmas himself even made an appearance if every single class to chat and spend time with the boys and girls. The children loved the Icelandic gift you gave us… we will enjoy reading our books on Christmas Eve with a cup of hot cocoa!
DESS has been festooned with a variety of international decorations from around the world, to tie in with our theme of Christmas around the world including a gingerbread house from Germany, paroles from the Philippines, crackers from the UK and international baubles to name a few!
All 4Cs have genuinely been displayed for a number of weeks when parents have wholeheartedly partnered with school to produce the most spectacular transformation of our beloved school and exciting seasonal activities on the stalls. Dedication, grit and commitment are in abundance and it is amazing to see what can be accomplished when we truly partner together. Many staff and parents alike, commented on how the smiles and appreciation from every single child was the complete reason for doing what we do.
A huge group of Dancing Dads and the DESStive assembly started the day with a bang, bringing the whole school community together to spread some festive cheer. Winter wonderland games, festive Zumba, Christmas story telling and DESStive karaoke were just some of the fun filled activities on offer throughout the day.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the vast parental team (approximately 100!) who made this vision truly come to life. In particular, a special shout out to Liv Tom, Becky Hogan, Yuva Gurbaxani, Kylie Galvin, Zara Arezu, Haneen Akil, Margarida Novais, Nicci Kynman, Holly Hadri, Sophie McLean, Debi Pomeroy, Sharon Diskin and Matt Jennison, who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and liased closely with myself.
Elfis, DESStiny and The Giving Tree!
The response to the challenge set by Elfis amd DESStiny, our resident elves on the shelf, has been overwhelming with a plethora of gifts for a huge number of children. Santa is thrilled with how your generosity will help others and that you have made their holiday season even better! The elves in the South Pole are busy sprinkling their magical elf dust to get them ready. He cannot WAIT to see their smiles when he gives them out!
