Thank you to all the parents and children who contributed to our DESStive Book Drive. We collected over 365 books which will be donated to Al Noor. The house elves were impressed with the selection of books and with how kind and considerate you are.
On Tuesday, we had the Festive Bake Sale, supported by our lovely team of mums. We were able to donate 2615dhs to Dubai Cares as a result of your generosity and delicious baked goods. A special thank you to all the parents and children who baked a merry treat!
DESS was dreaming of a white Christmas but, instead, the day began with buckets of rain! Definitely one to remember, as the music started and our annual Dancing Santa Dads boogied into the central playground on a handmade sustainable, cardboard sleigh, the heavens opened. This didn’t dampen our spirits as our dedicated dads, soaked to the bone, greeted all the children inside the classrooms and ran around jumping for joy!
Our dedicated mums transformed the Latifa Hall into a festive fairground, creating the most wonderful games and activities throughout the day. Highlights included Cookie Decorating, Santa Golf, Tin Can Alley and Reindeer Food making. Congratulations to Sothea in 6G and Vihaan in 1O who correctly guessed the names of the teddy with Pumpkin Snickerdoodle and Tiny McFluff being the correct names. The photobooth was also a popular station, with our in-house student photographers, Alex Cooper, Zoe Brown, Tom Oswald and Farah Mohsan, from DESC, working hard throughout the day and enjoying the festive spirit. Class teachers will be sharing some of the highlights of these on Twitter in the new year.
With a little elf magic, our Dance Studio was turned into a magical, tree-lit cosy haven where a small team of mums read winter stories to get us into the holiday mood.
As the sun dried out all the rain, the rest of the day proceeded merrily with festive karaoke, movie time and a disco. The party continued in individual classes and translated into festive learning. As we were working, we were visited by Santa Claus himself who was very happy to see us! He was proud that so many behaved ‘like a DESS child’ and had made it onto his nice list.
This year, teachers competed in a competition for the ‘best-dressed department’. Many year groups created some interesting costume ideas. Runner-up positions were awarded to FS1 and Y1, but the winners this year were Y2 with their theme of “every day I’m brusselling” as part of a festive lunch!
A momentous occasion where the DESS community came together, it was amazing to see so many people worked together to make this all happen.
A very special thank you to Bubs Felix, Yuva Gurbaxani, Matt Jennison, Petra Nbdele, Becky Hogan, Suman Manning, Kainaz Antia, Zara Arezu, Jen Simon and Donna Dickinson for countless hours of planning, wrapping, singing, painting, dancing and organising. You were a great support to organise your teams and everything magical that happened on DESStive Day!
