BSME Swimming Championships

On Saturday 27th April some DESS Swim Squad members, that met the qualifying time standards, attended the 2019 BSME Swimming Championships at the Hamdan Sports Complex.

What a fantastic event, held in one of the best swimming facilities in the UAE. It was the 11th consecutive year of these championships and also the largest one yet, with over 500 swimmers taking part from 23 different schools.

Some schools attending the event had even travelled from outside of the UAE, including Kuwait and Bahrain.

DESS had 26 swimmers attend the event and brought home a total of 55 medals after a long day of racing. Many new personal best times were achieved and out of the 11 BSME records that were broken on the day, 6 of them were broken by DESS, namely:

  • Girls 8&U 50 Freestyle (Madeleine Cassar)
  • Girls 8&U 200 Medley Relay (Heidi Edgar; India Clifton; Madeleine Cassar; Elodie Vincent)
  • Girls 8&U 200 Freestyle Relay (Heidi Edgar; India Clifton; Madeleine Cassar; Elodie Vincent)
  • Girls 9-10 50 Freestyle (Isla Edgar)
  • Girls 9-10 100 Freestyle (Isla Edgar)
  • Boys 8&U 200 Medley Relay (Dylan Henry; Jack Clemence; William Chatterjee; Toprak Umut)

Special mention to the following swimmers who also achieved the top three highest FINA point scores in their age groups:

Heidi Edgar (1st Place)
Madeleine Cassar (2nd Place)
Isla Edgar     (2nd Place)
William Chatterjee (3rd Place)

Very big congratulations to all the DESS swimmers that took part in the event and well done for the many personal best times that were achieved.
