Ramadan Sharing Fridges
During the Holy Month of Ramadan, we have arranged for Ramadan Sharing Fridges to be positioned once again outside school at our back gate. A big thank you to Year 1 and 2 who kept the fridges so well stocked last week.
The Ramadan Sharing Fridge Initiative began to help our less fortunate community workers and labourers to have access to free food and drinks during the month of Ramadan.
It’s about demonstrating that a small act of kindness can have a positive effect on other people’s lives, both during and beyond the Holy Month of Ramadan.
How are DESS taking part?
We would like to encourage the members of the DESS community to donate food and drink items to fill the fridges, which will stand at the back of school, next to the security box. There will be a rota for donation, as follows –
Week of 12th May- Years 3 and 4
Sunday – 3R/4R, Monday – 3O/4O, Tuesday – 3Y/4Y, Wednesday – 3G/4G, Thursday – 3B/4B
Week of 19th May – Foundation Stage
Sunday – FS1R/FS2R, Monday – FS1O/FS2O, Tuesday – FS1Y/FS2Y, Wednesday – FS1G/FS2G, Thursday – FS1B/FS2B
Week of 26th May – Years 5 and 6
Sunday – 5R/6R, Monday – 5O/6O, Tuesday – 5Y/6Y, Wednesday – 5G/6G, Thursday – 5B/6B
It would be really helpful if you could divide your contributions into portions and bagged up for easy access. Please also check that the food has not expired and that the fruit and vegetables are fresh.
The most popular items are:
- Drinks – juices, water, laban
- Food – fruit (in portions but not cut – bananas, apples, oranges, grapes, watermelon), vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions). Dry food, such as dates (for breaking the fast), biscuits, crisps are also welcomed. The list is not exhaustive but no homemade or easily perishable foods, please! All foods must be shop-bought and not homemade, due to recent changes in Health and Safety.
Thank you in advance for your support at this very special time of year.
